[forwarded announcement]

/Electronic Beowulf/, the pioneering digital edition, has just been
released in a new fifth edition, edited and designed by Kevin Kiernan
and programmed by Ionut Emil Iacob. The origins of /Electronic Beowulf
/go back to 1992 and its longevity owes much to the support of the
British Library and the University of Kentucky. The first version was
published (on CD ROM) in 1999. It has been updated and available now for
over a quarter of a century, becoming freely available online with its
fourth edition in 2015.

/Electronic Beowulf 5.0/ enhances the fundamental features of earlier

·High resolution images of British Library Cotton MS Vitellius A xv
·Ultraviolet images of damaged and faded sections of /Beowulf/
·Backlit images restoring letters concealed by conservation work
·Digital copies of the 1815 first edition
·Copies of 18th-century transcripts and 19th-century collations
·An exhaustive glossary
·Customized search tools
·Tools to analyse the meter of all half-lines in /Beowulf/
·Tools to test conjectural emendations and restorations

The fifth edition of /Electronic Beowulf /has many new features,
including:

·Easy customization of the edition by scholars, students, and general
readers

·A new comprehensive Guide with 350 new illustrations
