Dear Willard,

Harold's wishes on the occasion of your birthday cannot be echoed - they
must indeed be exponentiated. And judging by the sheer number of
discourses that you have initiated and fostered over the years both on
HUMANIST, and via your publications and presentations the resulting
number of wishes will then be to the power of - well, scrap that. Ideas
and emotions that really matter existentially are beyond quantification;
something/somebody either touch you, or they don't.

I joined HUMANIST in around 1988/89 and I met you in person for the
first time in Toronto in 1991. So one way or another you've been around
for me practically half my life-time. There are not many people with
whom I have managed to have a meaningful exchange for so long and I
think it is owed to the fact that you have stubbornly stuck to the ethos
encapsulated in Bakthin's remark which you quote as a motto on
https://dhhumanist.org/ :

"Truth is not born nor is it to be found inside the head of an
individual person, it is born between people collectively searching for
the truth, in the process of their dialogic interaction.... »

Thank you for this "dialogic interaction" - and thank you for being much
more than a truth-seeker: a friend.
