Subject: Editor's birthday!
Dear Willard
Humanist is not generally a venue for personal messages, but I hope that just
this once you'll be willing to make an exception. The exceptional circumstance
is the 80th birthday of our esteemed Editor. I'm sure all Humanist readers will
be delighted to join me in wishing you the happiest of birthdays!
Among your many valuable contributions to scholarship, Humanist stands out for
its longevity - three and half decades and counting, its reach, and its
character. Its importance to our field is enormous, not only as a public notice
board, but also as a space for intellectual challenge, exchange and
enlightenment. From your occasional comments, we know this is especially dear
to your heart, and a key reason for your long-term and continuing commitment to
the project.
So, my friend, we wish you a very happy birthday. Long may you, and Humanist,
flourish.
Harold
