        Subject: Workshop – Government Records and AI (22 July, Manchester)

Dear all,

As part of a new initiative titled LUSTRE/GLOW, led by Professor Lise Jaillant
and supported by Loughborough University in collaboration with the UK Cabinet
Office, we are organising a one-day workshop at the Mercure Hotel, Manchester,
on Tuesday 22nd July.

GLOW builds on the work of the LUSTRE project <https://lustre-network.net/> and
aims to bring together government professionals, archivists, and AI specialists
on both sides of the Atlantic. The project explores how artificial intelligence
might support more accessible and responsible use of born-digital government
records, while addressing challenges such as sensitivity, metadata quality, and
institutional trust.

This workshop will bring together professionals in government, academia and the
GLAM sector with expertise in digital records and archives  and archives, AI and
access to these records. It will provide a focused space to discuss current
practices, identify common challenges, and explore collaborative approaches
across different national and institutional contexts.

Participants will include representatives from the UK Cabinet Office and other
invited organisations in the fields of digital archiving, government policy, and
AI research.

Confirmed keynote speakers include:

  *   David Canning MBE (Head of Digital Knowledge & Information Management,
Cabinet Office Digital)
  *   Professor Victoria Lemieux (Professor of Archival Science at the School of
Information and lead of the Blockchain research cluster, University of British
Columbia, Canada)

We have a small number of places available for this not to be missed event. The
event is free to attend and includes lunch and refreshments.
