        Subject: a new book series

Dear colleagues,

This is to announce Interdisciplinary Research in the Arts, Sciences and
Humanities (IRASH), a new book series from the Oxford and New York
academic publisher Berghahn Books (https://www.berghahnbooks.com). It is
in its early stages, with one volume in peer-review, one likely soon to
be formally proposed and another that will be next year. I'm letting the
cat out of the bag early in order to stir preliminary interest and, I
hope, start a few conversations with potential authors or editors.

IRASH aims to supersede the notion of ‘interdisciplinarity’ by
supporting research that, in encounter with other fields of study,
expands its scope, questions inherited assumptions and opens up
possibilities for better conceptual frameworks. It intends to -- and its
first volume will -- bring into critical view the taken-for-granted
concepts, problematic vocabularies and questionable epistemic
commitments which so often shape disciplinary knowledge. Both
single-authored and multi-authored volumes are envisioned. Note in
particular that 'multi-authored' does not mean conventional 'edited
collections' but collaborative projects with contributors working
towards a shared if elusive intellectual goal.

No doubt you have wondered about the acronym. It is not the result of an
accident or oversight. The project is admittedly RASH, given the state
of academia, the world and the dizzying challenge of its objective. It's
also rash-inducing, designed to produce an intellectual itch that some,
I hope, will be unable to ignore.

Kindly write to me if you're interested to hear more. As we all know,
books take time to develop, so it is hardly too early for a conversation.

All best,
WM
