Dear colleagues,
Free Registration for the 11th Global Digital Humanities Symposium closes THIS
WEEK - 27 March. This year’s event will take place in-person on Monday, 13 April
at Michigan State University (USA), virtually on Zoom and YouTube on Tuesday and
Wednesday, 14-15 April, and in-person on Friday, 17 April at Universidad de
Monterrey (Mexico). All days will be livestreamed.

During the Virtual Symposium, we will support live interpretation of
presentations from English into Spanish and from Spanish into English.
We are delighted to feature virtual keynote presentations from Evelin Heidel
from Wikimedistas de Uruguay, Cindy A. Nguyen from UCLA, and in-person keynote
presentations from Rayvon Fouché from Northwestern University on 13 April and
Hugo Solís García from Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana on 17 April.

International Workshop
AI and Artworks
Object Detection, Image Classification and Iconographic Analysis
from 16 to 17 April 2026 at the PSK-Building, 1010 Vienna, Georg-Coch-Platz 2,
third floor, and online via Zoom. The link will be available on the event’s

AI is transforming how we approach images of the past and present. This workshop
is dedicated to the subject of AI-supported object detection, image
classification and iconographic analysis, with a focus on drawn, painted and
printed content. Contributions draw on large- and small-scale datasets and
explore the current possibilities and limitations of AI in this area. topics
include but are not limited to:
* How AI is currently employed in art historical research and writing to
detect, classify and analyse artworks
* Challenges surrounding pretrained models (mostly trained on modern
photographic material) and the creation of new training data and models
* Controlled vocabularies and their application in AI-based art historical
research
* The development of AI tools specifically tailored to art history
* Ethical and legal considerations surrounding the use of AI in art
historical research.

Hi all,
We are pleased to invite you to an upcoming webinar organised within the
GRAPHIA project, taking place on 16 April at 2 PM CET.
Title: Beyond SPARQL: towards conversation-based access to knowledge graphs
in GRAPHIA
SPARQL has long been the standard interface to knowledge graphs but its
technical complexity limits access for many audiences. This webinar
introduces Quagga, an LLM-based agent developed within GRAPHIA that enables
conversational exploration of knowledge graphs using natural language.
During the session, we will present how the agent works, including methods
to automatically generate metadata from any knowledge graph to support
text-to-SPARQL translation. We will also highlight the Quagga benchmark, an
ongoing collaborative crowdsourcing effort to build a knowledge graph
question-answering dataset focused on the social sciences and humanities.
The webinar will be of particular interest to researchers, data stewards,
and anyone working with or curious about knowledge graphs in the SSH domain.

The 9th Advanced Course on Data Science & Machine Learning – ACDL 2026 is a
full-immersion five-day Course at the Riva del Sole Resort & SPA
(Castiglione della Pescaia – Grosseto – Tuscany, Italy) on cutting-edge
advances in Deep Learning, Data Science and Generative AI with lectures
delivered by world-renowned experts. The Course provides a stimulating
environment for PhD students, Post-Docs, junior academics (only up to
assistant professors), early career researchers, and industry leaders (and
highly motivated, promising and brilliant Master students / BSc students).
Participants will also have the chance to present their results with talks,
and to interact with their colleagues, in a convivial, professional and
productive environment.
PhD students, PostDocs, Industry Practitioners and Junior Academics (only
up to assistant professors) will be typical profiles of the ACDL
attendants.The Course will involve a total of 36–40 hours of lectures,
according to the academic system the final achievement will be equivalent
to 8 ECTS points for the PhD Students (and some strongly motivated Master
Student – BSc Student) attending the Course.
Language: English.
To participate in the ACDL 2026, all attendants must
(1/2) register for the course (by April 23, 2026) and
(2/2) book accommodation at the course venue, “Riva del Sole Resort & SPA”
(by April 23, 2026); all attendants must stay at the “Riva del Sole Resort
& SPA”. Booking accommodation at the Riva del Sole must be made exclusively
using the accommodation form attached to the registration confirmation
email. No other methods must be used (if you use other booking methods the
hotel will cancel the reservation). Finally, it is not possible to extend
the stay, the special accommodation rates are valid only for the period of
the course, no exceptions will be made. To contact the Riva del Sole Resort

two-day hybrid workshop on AI and government records, taking place on Monday 20
and Tuesday 21 April at The National Archives, London.
Organised as part of the LUSTRE/GLOW <https://lustre-network.net/> initiative,
led by Professor Lise Jaillant and supported by Loughborough University, in
collaboration with The National Archives and the UK Cabinet Office, the workshop
bring together archivists, Knowledge & Information Management professionals, AI
specialists, Digital Humanists, and other researchers across the UK and US to
explore the responsible use of AI in improving access to born-digital government
records.
This is a gentle reminder that the deadline to express your interest in
attending in person is Monday 30 March. Due to space constraints, the
expressions of interest process applies only to in-person participation.
