research-students/research-scholarships>

Project Summary:

Global digital connectivity has triggered a transformation whose impact
is arguably greater than any other in the history of technologies of
communication. This project will undertake fundamental research to
explore how digital systems and networks have reshaped the way we relate
to each other and perceive ourselves, what we value, and the ways we
interact with the world around us – influencing our physical, mental and
ethical behaviours. Recent developments in AI, machine learning,
visualisation, gamification, digitisation, data curation, cybersecurity
and social robotics, among many related areas, are setting new
directions for the humanities and social sciences in the digital era.

ECU seeks a PhD candidate with the experience and skills to undertake an
original and innovative project that relates to the broad field of
communication and cultural studies with a focus on digital
transformations in contemporary global society. You will need excellent
organisational skills, capacity for high‐level independent research,
knowledge of the fast‐changing digital environment, a willingness to
engage with the most recent theory and practice in digital humanities
and social sciences, and capacity to contribute to a growing
interdisciplinary program in this area of research at ECU.
