Humanist Discussion Group, Vol. 38, No. 387. Department of Digital Humanities, University of Cologne Hosted by DH-Cologne www.dhhumanist.org Submit to: humanist@dhhumanist.org Date: 2025-03-05 14:44:08+00:00 From: Willard McCarty <willard.mccarty@mccarty.org.uk> Subject: "behind the eye" For reasons too complicated to explain here, I'm attempting to track down uses of the phrase "behind the eye" that are not medical, physiological or neurological. Equivalents in languages other than English are also welcome. The starting point was the title of Donald MacKay's last book, Behind the Eye (1991), which you may know. I was hoping the he'd explain his choice of that phrase, but he doesn't, though inferring its meaning for him is not difficult. A worthy book, by the way. Many thanks for any help.
