Humanist Discussion Group, Vol. 38, No. 264. Department of Digital Humanities, University of Cologne Hosted by DH-Cologne www.dhhumanist.org Submit to: humanist@dhhumanist.org Date: 2024-11-30 08:02:26+00:00 From: Willard McCarty <willard.mccarty@mccarty.org.uk> Subject: signatures As some here may have noticed, I have for some time attempted to understand through editorial action what limits placed on the size and verbosity of e-mail signatures would aid readers of Humanist or any other e-mail. I trust it goes without saying that announcements of one's own publications are more than welcome here, so also notices of projects, collaborations and so on. The problem I see occurs when signatures grow to such proportions that they begin to compete with, even to overwhelm, the main text of messages that precede them. I've been unable to come up with a rule to live by, other than 'keep it short'. Might anyone here have a better, more helpfully specific rule to measure with? Comments and suggestions please.
