Department of Digital Humanities, University of Cologne Hosted by DH-Cologne www.dhhumanist.org Submit to: humanist@dhhumanist.org Date: 2024-11-04 11:18:49+00:00 From: Hoover, Sarah <sarah.hoover@universityofgalway.ie> Subject: 20 Nov: Online engaged symposium Feminist Interventions: Digital Solidarity and Amplification Feminist Interventions announces a second symposium: Digital Solidarity and Amplification. DATE: 20 Nov 17.00 - 18.30 UTC REGISTRATION: https://feministint.wordpress.com This 90-minute, free online discussion will be supported and hosted by DH-WoGem (https://www.dhwogem.org/), the ADHO (Alliance of Digital Humanities Organisations) SIG (Special Interest Group) on Women and Gender Minorities. Please share widely! Feminist Interventions is a collaboration between the University of Galway, University of Vienna, and TU Dublin to convene Engaged Symposia refreshing scholarly engagement with emerging and established feminist theory at the intersections of politics, protest, and performance. The theme of this symposium is the digital response to and amplification of the Shaheen Bagh protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act, National Population Registry, and National Register of Citizens in India (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shaheen_Bagh_protest). Women were at the forefront of the protest, changing a blockaded road in Delhi into a protest community with art, childcare, and internal governance. The protesters effectively used social media and other digital interventions to communicate their aims and push back against misinformation and attack. When the pandemic closed the physical space, how did the digital space change? A guest speaker, Apsara Bala (https://www.linkedin.com/in/apsara-bala-777b5b1ba/ ?original_referer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Eqwant%2Ecom%2F&originalSubdomain=in) of IIT Indore (Digital Humanities and Publishing Research Group), will contextualise the protests through Digital Humanities and Public Space research lenses. Participation is free; we ask that attendees read several short articles before we meet in order to make the best use of our time. (See registration website for details.) Please join us by registering at the website above! We look forward to (digitally) seeing you there.
