        Subject: Mapping partisan monuments

Dear fellow humanists, a group of volunteers has been mapping
Slovenian partisan and anti-fascist monuments on the public
interactive map Geopedia. So far, we have registered, described and
photographed 8400 monuments in Slovenia, neighbouring countries and
elsewhere in Europe
(https://www.geopedia.world/?locale=en#T281_L2518_x1709131.9524565407_y5766409.413833694_s8_b2345).

The collection is published under the CC-licence. The new owner of
Geopedia, the company Planet, has announced that the portal, which
hosted us for free for ten years, will be closed down in 2025 because
the company is now engaged with other projects. The most active
contributors involved in this citizen science project
(https://eu-citizen.science/project/442) are looking for a
substitutional platform to move the database to. Our wish is that the
layer of partisan monuments will continue to be

- open to the public for viewing, and to the registered users for editing
- as we have no funding, our hosting should be free of charge
- further it should be able to search and filter hits by individual 12
fields in the layer
- it should allow the registered users to export the layer or the
filtered hits in any of the popular data formats
- it should allow the fields to accept several pages of comprehensive
descriptions and up to dozen 1600 px-images per each monument

Suggestions for an alternative website are being collected on our
project page on Wikiversity
(https://sl.wikiversity.org/wiki/Spomeni%C4%8Darski_problemi#Kam_po_Geopediji?
-- in Slovene, use Deepl to translate). The experts suggest a
combination of OpenStreetMap and Wikidata, with links to separately
placed images, since due to copyright, neither on Wikimedia Commons
nor on OSM photographs of statues and other copyright memorials are
not allowed. We would be happy to receive additional recommendations.
