Subject: Digital Guide: Ancient Dissections - Re-enacted

Dear colleagues,

We are delighted to announce the new website: “Ancient Dissections -
Re-enacted” - https://dissections.atlomy.com/

The website is a digital platform allowing you to follow the dissection
of a porcine abdominal wall and peritoneum as instructed by Galen of
Pergamon (2nd-3rd cent. CE). It aims at guiding readers of Galen through
the complexities of the text and dissection by means of images, videos
and commentary.

It is the product of the work of team ATLOMY (Anatomy in Ancient Greece
and Rome: An Interactive Visual and Textual Atlas - funded by the ERC,
and based at Jerusalem).

Our team of classicists and experts in modern human and veterinary
medicine translated the ancient text, distilled from it every step of
the process, and followed the steps in a modern re-enactment of the
ancient dissection.

In the step-by-step guide
(https://dissections.atlomy.com/step-by-step-guide-3) you can view
Galen’s Greek text and our English translation, alongside visuals from
the re-enactment and our interpretation of the evidence.
Our hope is that this website will provide users with new insights and a
deeper understanding of Galen's work.

We would appreciate any feedback (via the feedback Button on the
website) on your experience using this guide, on its content and whether
it improved your understanding of the text; it would help us improve the
interface and presentation of the material, and the planning of our next
re-enactments.

The dissection was performed on a female pig, abiding by the strict
ethical screening and regulations of the European Union. The pig was
euthanized for other clinical reasons and not for the purpose of this
re-enactment.

Please note that the visual data is raw footage, and viewer discretion
is advised.

Best wishes,
Orly
