These events are inspired by the Society's 2023 exhibition, *Pursuit & Persistence: 300 Years of Women in Science* <https://www.amphilsoc.org/museum/exhibitions/pursuit-and-persistence>, which is now open and will run through December 2023. The first conference, "Women in Science: Achievements and Barriers," explores the history and present work of women in science. It will be held in-person on June 8-9 at the Society in Philadelphia and will also be livestreamed. Registration is free; more details and a full program are available on the Society's website: https://www.amphilsoc.org/women-science-achievements-and-barriers The conference organizers also invite proposals for a second conference on the topic of "Women in Science: Opportunities." The conference will take place on October 5-6 at the Society in Philadelphia and will focus on the present state of women in science and society as well as the opportunities to create a more inclusive and diverse practice of science. All best, Adrianna --------------- Women in Science: Opportunities A conference hosted by the American Philosophical Society October 5-6, 2023 As part of programming inspired by its 2023 exhibition *Pursuit and Persistence: 300 Years of Women in Science* <https://www.amphilsoc.org/museum/exhibitions/pursuit-and-persistence>, the American Philosophical Society is organizing an international conference reflecting on the past, present, and future opportunities for women in science. The conference especially aims to examine this topic from interdisciplinary and global perspectives. The conference will be held in-person at the Society in Philadelphia on October 5-6, 2023. The conference will also be livestreamed. The program committee invites paper proposals from scholars in all fields, as well as practitioners, policymakers, educators, and others whose work or experiences bear upon this theme. Possible topics include but are not limited to: - Studies of past and present policies that succeeded in creating opportunities for women in science, as well as those that failed - Studies of how institutions and organizations support leadership, mentorship, and training opportunities for women in science - The impact of community-led initiatives for promoting women in STEM at the local, national, and international levels - Past, present, and future opportunities of formal and informal K-12 education for promoting women in science - Strategies for teaching and learning about women in science, especially through storytelling, science communication, and different media platforms - Studies exploring the diversity of opportunities and career pathways for women in science, especially beyond the academy and/or the laboratory - The ways in which women in science have advanced opportunities for political, social, and economic change in the past and present - Opportunities to diversify representation among women in STEM Applicants should submit a title and a 250-word proposal along with a C.V. by June 12, 2023 via Interfolio: http://apply.interfolio.com/123891 All presenters will receive travel subsidies and hotel accommodations.
