In the context of the research project PRIN 2022 Reading the Italian Novel
at a Distance (1830-1930) the selection is open for a Research Fellowship
position (one year, possibly renewable) at the University of Rome Tor
Vergata.

The project aims to conduct distant reading experiments on a corpus of 1000
Italian novels and short story collections, including translations into
Italian from other languages, published between 1830 and 1930. Large-scale
analyses will be conducted from a synchronic and diachronic perspective
using statistical and computational methods. Analyses will focus on the way
characters express their thoughts and emotions and on the identification of
social changes in the novels under investigation.

If you know Italian and Italian literature and feel like studying with me
and the rest of the project team how Data Science and Large Language Models
like GPT can help us understand literary fiction, please send your
application via https://pica.cineca.it/uniroma2/f1-2023-0127/. And hurry,
the call for applications expires on 21 December 2023!

Dear all,

We have an opening for a 3 year postdoc in critical data studies/synthetic
data as part of the "Operationalising Ethics for AI: translation,
implementation and accountability challenges" project at Linköping
University, Sweden.

This is an interdisciplinary project, and part of the research program The
Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program – Humanities and
Society.

Please find below the official blurb on the position and a link for
applications. I'm also happy to chat informally with anyone who is
interested.

With thanks and best wishes,
Katherine Harrison

-----
Postdoc in Gender Studies with a focus on critical data studies and
synthetic data

Operationalizing Ethics for AI is an interdisciplinary project bringing
together critical feminist and computer science perspectives. This postdoc
project will engage an intersectional perspective on synthetic data for
algorithm development with a theoretical base in feminist technoscience
studies, critical studies of AI, HCI, design, and data science. It will
critically interrogate synthetic data as an object (to be, for example,
regulated and discussed by industry and policy) and as a process (of
creating a representation of the world used for a range of technical goals).
