DHSI 2024 will run 3–7 June (Week 1) and 10–14 June (Week 2). The past few years have been a bit of a wild ride, but even in the alternative online and hybrid formats we were exploring, we came together as a community and made the best of what was possible. Fully online DHSI offerings featured about 1000 participants a week, and our measured return last year to one week of our more traditional format gathered a group of over 300 in-person, with some 550 additionally joining for the online week. We’re excited to return to two in- person weeks for 2024 and are really looking forward to working together with you toward it!! * What is DHSI? The Digital Humanities Summer Institute (DHSI) provides an ideal environment for discussing and learning about new computing technologies and how they are influencing teaching, research, dissemination, creation, and preservation in different disciplines, via a community-based approach. A time of intensive coursework, seminars, and lectures, participants at DHSI share ideas and methods, and develop expertise in using advanced technologies. Every summer, the institute brings together faculty, staff, and students from the Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences, Library, and Archives communities as well as independent scholars and participants from areas beyond. Described by one participant as an event that "combines the best aspects of a skills workshop, international conference, and summer camp," DHSI prides itself on its friendly, informal, and collegial atmosphere. We invite you to join the DHSI community in Victoria for a time of focused practice, learning, and connecting with (and making new) friends and colleagues. * Fabulous 2024 Offerings (Plus Registration & Scholarships) Offerings for 2024 are the result of consultation with our community about the topics and material we'd all like to see covered at DHSI now and in the future, as well as an open call for proposals. Our course list continues to grow, and we are committed to maintaining smaller class sizes in order to maximize our learning together! At the moment, preparations for our 40+ 2024 course offerings and aligned activities continue to hum along in Victoria, and our 'quiet' launch of our new website and registration system (!) has resulted in courses beginning to fill ... starting a bit ahead of anticipated schedule. As in the past: if there's a course you or a member of your team absolutely need, we’d recommend registration earlier rather than later for it! In addition to a great mix of classic and new courses (recommended by our community), we've got some great talks in store from Leigh Bonds (Ohio State U), Maciej Eder (Pedagogical U Kraków), and Amanda Madden (George Mason U), with more news of others soon – -- as well as several aligned conferences and events: the DHSI Conference and Colloquium (Kyle Dase, U Victoria), Project Management in the Humanities (Lynne Siemens, U Victoria), Open, Digital, Collaborative Project Preservation in the Humanities (Luis Meneses, Vancouver Island U), GraphPoem (Chris Tanasescu, Open U Catalonia), among others! Further, as we do every year, we'll have the pleasure of awarding a number of tuition scholarships. Application is via https://dhsi.org/scholarships- bursaries/, and these scholarships cover tuition costs with the exception of a small, non-refundable administration fee (students $150, non-students $300). The absolute deadline to apply for scholarships is 14 February 2024, though the scholarship committee considers applications on a regular, rolling basis and evaluates applications based on need, merit, and course availability at the time of consideration. Scholarship spots tend to fill exceptionally quickly! We’re also hoping to work, as we've done in the past, with a number of groups to offer additional support in the form of travel bursaries (!); details on our website, as we have more news on that. - Course Offerings, https://dhsi.org/on-campus-courses2024/ - Registration & Fees, https://dhsi.org/registration-fees/ - Scholarships, https://dhsi.org/scholarships-bursaries/ * Wonderful Partners and Sponsors DHSI is organized for our community by the Electronic Textual Cultures Lab and takes place on the University of Victoria campus. Please see our archive for our offerings since 2001, beginning at Vancouver Island University, and our partnered events and offerings worldwide. We're very, very happy to welcome and continue working with our new and returning partners and sponsors! You can find details of this fine group at https://dhsi.org/partners-sponsors/. FYI, membership in these groups allows discounted registration (details at https://dhsi.org/registration-fees/). --- 2024 is shaping up to be another banner year, and we hope very much that you are considering joining our community for it! (And do tell a friend : ) In anticipation of welcoming you to DHSI in June, Ray For Ray, Alyssa, Randa, Adar, and the whole DHSI team https://dhsi.org --[2]------------------------------------------------------------------------ Date: 2023-10-19 14:00:49+00:00 From: Nicola Carboni <nic.carboni@gmail.com> Subject: CfP: Do we really need Digital Art History (DAH)?
