CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: SoFCB JUNIOR FELLOWS PROGRAM

Rare Book School’s (SoFCB) invites applications for its 2024–26 cohort of Junior
Fellows. The deadline is Friday, 17 November 2023.

This scholarly society works to advance the study of texts, images, and
artifacts as material objects through capacious, interdisciplinary
scholarship—and to enrich humanistic inquiry and education by identifying,
mentoring, and training promising early-career scholars. Junior Fellows will be
encouraged and supported in integrating the methods of critical bibliography
into their teaching and research, fostering collegial conversations about
historical and emerging media across disciplines and institutions, and sharing
their knowledge with broader publics.

The fellowship includes tuition waivers for two Rare Book School courses, as
well as funding for Junior Fellows to participate in the Society’s annual
meeting and orientation. Additional funds are available for fellows to organize
symposia at their home institutions, and fellows will have the option of
attending a bibliographical field school to visit libraries, archives, and
collections in a major metropolitan area. After completing two years in good
standing as Junior Fellows, program participants will have the option to become
Senior Fellows in the Society.

The Society is committed to supporting diversity and to advancing the
scholarship of outstanding persons of every race, gender, sexual orientation,
creed, and socioeconomic background, and to enhancing the diversity of the
professions and academic disciplines it represents, including those of the
professoriate, museums, libraries, archives, public humanities, and digital
humanities. We warmly encourage prospective applicants from a wide range of
disciplines, institutions, and areas of expertise.

Subject: Professor in Design Informatics job at University of Edinburgh

Dear Humanist members –

We are currently recruiting for a new Chair (Professor) in Design Informatics at
the University of Edinburgh, to co-direct the Institute for Design Informatics,
based in Edinburgh College of Art. The Institute for Design Informatics is our
University’s interdisciplinary research unit focused on design-led research into
data, artificial intelligence and ethical design and innovation, and is a
collaboration across Edinburgh College of Art and the School of Informatics.

The full advert is below – and I am happy to have informal chats with anyone
interested in applying for this post.

Chair in Design Informatics
Edinburgh College of Art, University of Edinburgh

Deadline: 13th November 2023

We are seeking an experienced and successful academic to co-direct and drive
forward our research, innovation and pedagogy within the Institute for Design
Informatics. You will have proven experience of grant capture and collaborating
with a variety of partners, and a track record of working at the intersection of
design, data and emerging technologies.

The Opportunity:

This is an opportunity to co-direct the Institute of Design Informatics,
representing Edinburgh College of Art in this interdisciplinary space, which is
co-directed with a colleague from the School of Informatics.

Data driven innovation is transforming society, the economy and design and
creative processes. In the Institute for Design Informatics, we engage in
creative and ethical design practice, creating experiences and prototyping
systems that enable diverse communities and stakeholders to explore the
implications of the data society, the digital economy, and the adoption of
intelligent and autonomous technologies. Relevant “createch” technologies range
from the internet of things, through blockchains, to robotics, data
visualisation, interaction design, AI, XR, social computing, and Virtual
Production.

We promote the critical and playful exploration of data as a material for
design, participatory and speculative practices, and deep engagement with
industry, public, non-profit and policy partners. We also place great emphasis
on public engagement, benefitting from our own engagement facility, Inspace,
through which we exhibit our research, host creatives-in-residence, host public
and industry facing workshops, and deliver public talks. Over the last decade,
the Institute has rapidly grown to a large interdisciplinary community of 100+
members, with a core group of 16 academic faculty.

Your skills and attributes for success:
International research profile and success winning research grants and
delivering impact and innovation
Experience of successful engagement with industry
Innovative and inclusive approach to pedagogy
Commitment to collegial working practices
Experience of leadership in Higher Education and managing complex,
interdisciplinary programmes and research groups
