Applications are to be submitted by June 24th, 2022 for a start in the autumn 2022. The PhD candidate will work in the context of an interdisciplinary research project of the IRHT (Institute for Research and History of Texts, CNRS UPR841) <https://www.irht.cnrs.fr/> and the Laboratoire d’Informatique Gaspard Monge <https://siteigm.univ-mlv.fr/>(CNRS UMR8049) <https://siteigm.univ-mlv.fr/> . The PhD candidate will be supervised by myself as a primary supervisor and Mathieu Aubry as co-supervisor. This research will aim at studying the creation and formal developments of signs used in the Middle Ages for the Latin scripts, and at understanding their correlations. The historical and paleographical research will be supported by artificial vision (Artificial intelligence based image analysis) and this research will contribute to the developments of dedicated tools.
