There are in the history of each of us encounters and moments that leave a
deep mark on our personal existence and our intellectual life, that
determine what will be of our future. For me, the first meeting with Dino
was one of those encounters and moments. It was in the spring of 94, 30
years right these days, and - just graduated - I received an invitation
from Dino to give a lecture on the problem of text encoding to his course
in Computer Science for Cultural Heritage (I seem to remember that was the
title of the course) in Ravenna.

The deep and thought-provoking discussions with Dino during those two days
directed my research and career for the next decades. From those days began
a relationship of intellectual dialogue and personal esteem that lasted
until yesterday - just Friday, he had written to me, offering to proofread
the drafts of his preface to a book on DH that I edited. So I can say that
Dino has been a master for me, as well as one of the sharpest and most
brilliant minds in our field of study.

But there is much more. Those who knew him closely know how difficult it
was to get on human terms with him; he was a kind and helpful person but
also reserved and shy. Well, I feel that in these thirty years, I have also
been his friend, he certainly has been a friend to me. And this personal
friendship and affection are what I will miss the most.

Farewell Dino.

Fabio

Dear Willard,
Dear Manfred,

A greatest loss indeed is that of Professor Dino Buzzetti!

I have found a video of an intervention of him, regarding the origin of DH
and the DH turn, delivered in Hamburg in 2020:
https://lecture2go.uni-hamburg.de/l2go/-/get/v/36518

It makes us hear again his voice and thoughts on such a crucial topic.

R.I.P.

Best regards,
Marinella
