Hello from Princeton!

The Center for Digital Humanities <https://cdh.princeton.edu/>(CDH) at
Princeton University and our on-campus collaborators are currently
accepting applications from three DH-related postdoctoral positions! We
seek innovative, multidisciplinary scholars to join the Princeton
community and contribute to data-driven and computational humanities
initiatives on campus.

For all three positions, candidates should have or expect to have a
Ph.D. by the start date. Untenured scholars with fewer than four years
of postdoctoral experience are eligible to apply. Appointments are for
one year with the possibility of renewal pending satisfactory
performance and continued funding.

Candidates for each position must submit (1) a cover letter; (2) the
title and summary of a proposed independent digital humanities research
project ; (3) a curriculum vitae; (4) a sample syllabus for a DH-related
undergraduate course; and (5) three letters of reference. Requirements
vary slightly by position, so please read the calls for applications in
full before applying.

Those interested in more than one opportunity must submit separate

        Perkins Postdoctoral Fellow in the Humanities Council


The CDH Invites applications for a Perkins Postdoctoral Fellow in the
Humanities Council. The Fellow may be appointed as a postdoctoral
scholar or a more senior research associate.

The Perkins Fellow will spend 50% time on their own digital humanities
research project. During the other 50% time, they will participate in
the life of the CDH, which may include collaborating with faculty,
graduate students, or research software engineers on projects, providing
consultations, and/or attending CDH colloquia, discussion groups,
meetings, and events. The Perkins Fellow is also expected to participate
in the life of the Humanities Council <https://humanities.princeton.edu/>.

The Perkins Fellow will be expected to teach one to two courses per year
during their appointment, including our flagship Introduction to Digital
Humanities course, subject to sufficient enrollments and with the
approval of the Dean of the Faculty.

We are particularly interested in candidates whose research engages with
machine learning techniques, such as neural networks, NLP, or computer
vision.

     Postdoctoral Research Associate for Manuscript, Rare Book and
     Archive Studies

The CDH and the NEH-funded initiative for Manuscript, Rare Book and
Archive Studies <https://marbas.princeton.edu/>

(MARBAS) invite applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate or
more senior researcher.

The MARBAS Postdoctoral Associate will spend 50% time on their own digital
humanities research project. During the other 50%, they will work with
the MARBAS team organizing seminars, coordinating pedagogical resources
and advancing MARBAS goals through additional initiatives.

The selected candidate may have the option to teach during their
appointment, subject to sufficient enrollments and with the approval of
the Dean of the Faculty.

Candidates with a background in the history of the ancient and/or
medieval world and with knowledge of codicology, paleography and/or
diplomatics in a premodern language tradition, and whose research
integrates digital, data-driven, or computational methods, are
encouraged to apply. We are particularly interested in candidates whose
work focuses on non-Western traditions.

   Postdoctoral Research Associate in African Language Technologies

The Center for Digital Humanities and the Princeton African Humanities
Colloquium <https://pah.princeton.edu/>invite applications for a
Postdoctoral Research Associate, or more senior researcher, in African
Language Technologies.

The Postdoctoral Research Associate in African Language Technologies
will spend 50% of their time on their own digital humanities research project. 
During the other 50% of their time, they will participate in a new
multidisciplinary initiative to create data and tools for machine
learning for African languages.

The selected candidate may have the option to teach one or two courses
per year during their appointment, subject to sufficient enrollments and
with the approval of the Dean of the Faculty.

Candidates with a background in linguistics, natural language
processing, and/or computational humanities, and competence in at least
one African language, are encouraged to apply.

        Subject: Postdoc in Ethics and Epistemology of AI and Data

Job description

SoBigData++ <https://plusplus.sobigdata.eu/> is a distributed,
multi-disciplinary research infrastructure for big social data
analytics, coupled with the consolidation of a cross-disciplinary
European research community, aimed at using social mining and big data
to understand the complexity of our contemporary,
globally-interconnected society. SoBigData++ develops applications that
operationalize ethics with value-sensitive design, incorporating values
and norms for privacy protection, fairness, transparency, and pluralism.
SoBigData++ offers 91 unique datasets, 120 pilot projects developed with
diverse companies, over 90 social mining methods, and apps, and more
than 7,000 active users. In 2022, SoBigData entered the ESFRI Roadmap as
SoBigData-RI (http://sobigdata.eu/index <http://sobigdata.eu/index>)
with the purpose of offering their services (infrastructure, data,
expertise) to state members. In the Netherlands, we intend to create the
Dutch Research Node (DRN) that will bridge organizations, institutions,
and government agencies with the services provided by SoBigData-RI. This
postdoc project is a unique opportunity to assist in the creation of the
DRN, engage with diverse stakeholders (from university academics to
government officials), and take part in science and philosophy
communication. This postdoc also includes the opportunity to advance in
an academic position via teaching duties, research, and organization of
events, as well as acquire experience in ethics consulting. The
successful candidate will be affiliated with TU Delft and be part of a
vibrant research community that includes the Delft Digital Ethics
Centre, Delft Design for Values, and Open Data Infrastructure for Social
Science and Economic Innovations (ODISSEI).

The direct tasks of this PostDoc position include:

(1) To establish a DRN within the SoBigData node. To this end, the
candidate will have to know the project and its goals, be able to
communicate it clearly to all the current members of the DRN and be able
to contact and bring new members into the network. An excellent level of
English and communication skills is required. Traveling within the
Netherlands (and possibly Europe) will be required.

(2) To serve as a consultant on diverse issues related to ethics,
epistemology, and societal implications of AI, Data, and similar
technologies.

(3) Teaching duties at TU Delft.

(4) Conduct philosophical research on specific topics.

This position is jointly hosted by TU Delft, SoBigData-ESFRI Consortium
& ODISSEI. At TU Delft you will be part of the Ethics/Philosophy of
Technology Section, Department of Value, Technology and Innovation. At
ODISSEI you will collaborate with Tom Emery.
The starting date is as soon as possible.

Requirements

   * Ph.D. degree in Philosophy (Ethics of Technology, Ethics of AI and
     Data, Philosophy of Science and AI or Epistemology of AI)
   * Experience in organizing and hosting events, networking, and
     interacting with different stakeholders
   * Domain knowledge in the field of data science is an asset;
   * Solid problem-solving skills and capacity to take the initiative;
   * Ability to work well in a team;
   * Proven written and verbal English communication skills (do mention
     your key publications in the motivation letter)

Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Collective Labour
