Subject: Tenure-Track Faculty in Digital Archives, Preservation, and/or Curation (Open Rank) - iSchool@Illinois

Dear Colleagues:

Hi all, we are hiring for 3 open-rank, tenure-track jobs in the UIUC iSchool
(https://ischool.illinois.edu/our-school/job-openings), but I especially wanted
to highlight this position in Digital Archives, Preservation, and/or Curation,
which I suspect many Digital Humanities folks might find intriguing—you can
message me with questions about that one (or the iSchool itself)

All best,
Ryan

School of Information Sciences (iSchool)
University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign
The School of Information Sciences (iSchool) at the University of Illinois
invites applications for full-time, tenure-track faculty positions at all ranks
in the broad areas of digital archives, digital preservation, and/or digital
curation, including but not limited to:

• Born digital preservation and data curation

• Cultural heritage and collections as data

• Critical archival and data studies

• Software and platform studies

• Community-centered digital practices and preservation

• Critical approaches to metadata, digital accessibility, and
digital sustainability

• Digital preservation infrastructures, tools, and policies
We welcome candidates whose work engages in pressing issues such as anti-
colonial or anti-racist approaches to Library and Information Science (LIS)
scholarship, or seeking to empower under-resourced community-based collections
and archives, and who can apply these perspectives in their teaching of both
theoretical and technical topics.

Exceptional candidates in any area of information science or related fields, and
particularly those with demonstrable commitments to a more inclusive and just
society, are strongly encouraged to apply.
We seek applicants who will thrive in an interdisciplinary academic unit at one
of the nation’s premier land-grant research universities. Successful candidates
must exhibit the potential to conduct world-class research, teach effectively in
undergraduate, professional, and doctoral programs, and contribute to our
mission of advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion. Applicants must hold a
Ph.D. or equivalent by the time of appointment.

At the iSchool at Illinois, we employ methods from across the disciplines to
grapple with society’s most urgent challenges related to information, its
practices, and technologies. Our faculty are global experts in areas as diverse
as AI, children’s books, and network science.
Our doctoral degree in Information Sciences builds on a long tradition that
includes the oldest LIS doctoral program in the country and the top-ranked
professional master’s program in library and information science. We also offer
professional master’s programs in information management and bioinformatics, a
licensure program in school librarianship, as well as an interdisciplinary,
STEM-designated undergraduate degree in information sciences. More information
can be found at: http://ischool.illinois.edu/.

To apply, please visit https://jobs.illinois.edu and upload a cover letter
discussing your interest in and suitability for this position, CV, and
statements of research and teaching. For full consideration, please apply by the
priority deadline of 6 p.m. (CST) on December 1, 2022. Applications not
submitted through https://jobs.illinois.edu will not be considered. Interviews
may take place before the search is closed; however, no offers will be made
until after that priority deadline.

This is a full-time, tenure-track faculty position. Salary is commensurate with
qualifications and experience. The preferred starting date is August 16, 2023.
