Maurizio,

Thank you very much for your clarification. Inasmuch as I misunderstood
your aside on iconic reindeer herders, I wish to apologize.
The historical relationship between the German and the Ukrainian peoples
is extremely painful (Babyn Jar) and not easily distributed between good
and bad, friend or foe (the Trawniki henchmen). So much more, it seems
necessary that we begin to realize that even well-meant ideas such as
'co-operation' will ultimately depend on the actual social practice,
that they can be misused against all good purpose to control and
silence. One day we may even come to understand that our social
practice, as *social* practice, is not about conquering the Other, but
about supporting and furthering integration. 'What, if you realize that
the right and the left wing belong to the same bird?' We can learn
something even from reindeer herders.
The courageous colleagues who defend themselves against a war of
aggression and intimidation deserve our support and recognition.
Best, Hartmut

Dear colleagues,

@Jan: as far as I know, when we talk of treason in Russia, we should
think of "high treason" and ask ourselves what this means in terms of
punishment.

And yes, the solution is in the hands of the Russians. As the following
letter shows, Digital Humanists are not the only ones, who are aware of
this:
