@hartmut,
i mentioned the nomadic reindeer herders as persons difficult to
grasp, so to say. while a professor is much easier to put in jail.

May I add to your statement that deserves support from all well-intended
persons that I have personally met many true philosophers and orators
among the 'nomadic reindeer herders,' whom you cite by comparison, and
too many cloned idiots imposing themselves to 'co-operate' in academia?

I am awed by the braveness of our Russian colleagues - Maurizio, thank
you for bringing this open letter to our attention!

When I first opened the link Google drive told me that the file no
longer insisted; my heart skipped a beat or two, then I realized I
hadn't copied the full link into my browser. And the reward was doubled
by then finding out that the number of signatories had already risen to

Dear All,

In a way, our Russian colleagues are hostages of their kleptocratic oligarchs:
they can be accused of treason and they will bear the brunt of our necessary
sanctions. Since we cannot help Ukraine with force, the solution to Putin is in
the hands of the Russians. A new generation is on its way, as we can see in the
street protests around Russia, but this will take years.

Meanwhile, Hitler is nearing Warsaw; his armies have suffered some casualties on
their way there, but the siege is imminent. If he triumphs, he will flatten
Warsaw and, after a few days, imprison and then kill its heroic mayor, Stefan
Szarzyński. Now replace these name entities by those in the present crisis (the
shoe fits perfectly), and you will see where we are.
