Humanist Discussion Group, Vol. 35, No. 558. Department of Digital Humanities, University of Cologne Hosted by DH-Cologne www.dhhumanist.org Submit to: humanist@dhhumanist.org Date: 2022-02-27 09:57:55+00:00 From: maurizio lana <maurizio.lana@uniupo.it> Subject: courage to stand against dear Humanists, there is online (at https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfFf_xQdYjLvYac3es1qYaRPAF8XDtvEZP1aBho NVS1fkw5nA/viewform) a message of our Russian DH colleagues, addressed to EADH (European Association of Digital Humanities) who express their utter dissent from the military action of the Russian government against Ukraine. they are 85 at the moment when i write here. this means that EADH is felt as a place of freedom of thought and where people feel their personal and public story is being welcomed. our Russian colleagues, in signing this letter, have shown more courage than anyone of us. i recall the Italian professors who did not swear their loyalty to Fascism. our colleagues publicly state that they do not recognize themselves in the actions of their government. i fear that it could (will?) be dangerous for these people to have expressed their dissent in a public document with their name and surname: they are not nomadic reindeer herders, they are people who work in universities, in public institutions. In Italy, this dissent reminds us of the dissent of the university professors who did not swear to Fascism in 1931.
