Subject: To Understand the Mind We Must Build One, A Review of Models of the Mind – Bye Bye René, Hello Giambattista | 3 Quarks Daily

Fellow Humanists:

I’ve just reviewed a wonderful book:

Grace Lindsay. Models of the Mind: How Physics, Engineering, and Mathematics
Have Shaped Our Understanding of the Brain, Bloomsbury Publishing, 2021.

I urge all of you to read it. I use James Joyce and Giambattista Vico to frame
the review, arguing that the methodologies Lindsay describes are fundamentally
Viconian rather than Cartesian.

Best,

BB
