Willard

The other day, Max Kemman pointed me in the direction of the work of Patrik
Svensson where I found this phrase: "the digital humanities engages with the
digital as a tool, as an object of inquiry, and as an expressive medium." From
my reading of Humanist I have gathered the impression that communities and
individuals have focussed on the digital as tool and as object of inquiry. I
wonder about attention to the digital as medium of expression. Towards the
end of an interview with Kemman, Svensson questions the drive to the generic and
the interoperable. See his remarks beginning at 35 minutes in. An audience
member at a conference demo asked when will the installation be ported to the
Web. Svensson's response is in essence an invitation to ask how an
infrastructure might be reproduced elsewhere, an invitation to interrogate the
ubiquity of one particular infrastructure.

Will the WWW continue to drive the digital humanities? Is this a fair question?

Curious
