Subject: dB or not dB That certainly is the question - although it's more Analog Humanities than DH. :-) I was tickled to get this Application Note - the subtitle is "Everything you ever wanted to know about decibels but were afraid to ask..." Why would you ever want to read this long Application Note? I can see two possibilities: 1) You work with real life situations where power measurements are needed, or 2) You'd like to find out a bit more about how engineers think - e.g. from p36 "3 dB is not an exact power ratio of 2 and 6 dB is not exactly 4! For everyday usage, however, these simplifications provide sufficient accuracy and as such are commonly used." If I've sufficiently aroused your curiosity, The Application Note is at: https://scdn.rohde-schwarz.com/ur/pws/dl_downloads/dl_application/application_no tes/1ma98/1MA98_13e_dB_or_not_dB.pdf --henry _______________________________________________ Unsubscribe at: http://dhhumanist.org/Restricted List posts to: firstname.lastname@example.org List info and archives at at: http://dhhumanist.org Listmember interface at: http://dhhumanist.org/Restricted/ Subscribe at: http://dhhumanist.org/membership_form.php
