Subject: Job Opportunity: Postdoc for Digital Projects, CASVA, NGA The Center for Advanced Study in the Visual Arts (CASVA) at the National Gallery of Art (NGA) is now accepting applications for the Postdoctoral Research Associate for Digital Projects. Overview: The incumbent provides the CASVA deans with guidance, technical support, and implementation for computer-based scholarly research projects and publications. Ensures that digital projects meet the specific research goals of the deans and compliance with NGA technical requirements and resources. The incumbent also meets regularly with research teams as well as other Gallery staff and creates production schedules to ensure the development and maintenance of CASVA's presence on the NGA website. This position supports the NGA mission to strengthen digital outreach and collaboration in ways that increase public access to CASVA-sponsored research. The incumbent plays a critical role in enriching and expanding existing research projects (see http://www.nga.gov/content/ngaweb/research/casva/research-projects.html) by using digital tools and methods such as database construction, website development, and online publishing. Primary Duties and Responsibilities: Collaborate with internal teams to design, develop, and implement digital projects; deliver projects on time ensuring compliance with gallery quality, style, and IT standards are met. Scope project requirements and provide technical oversight throughout planning process, from development, beta testing and site launch, to evaluation, maintenance, and archiving. Develop support documentation including technical logs and requirement specifications. Communicate with the team and ensure all members are on board with delegated tasks. Highlight potential technical issues and act proactively to resolve issues both before and after site launches. Enhance the creation and dissemination of research and scholarship by monitoring emerging trends and supporting the creation and discovery of open-access scholarship and new forms of scholarly digital media and publishing. Coordinate and provide instruction and training on digital scholarship tools, techniques, and methodologies. Develop opportunities for collaboration and other outreach related to digital scholarship in collaboration with wider museum and art-historical community. Lead and manage the CASVA website team to steward the content and quality of website. Serve as the CASVA webmaster, coordinating the web presence with NGA staff in redesigns, maintenance, improvement, and continuous usability testing. Other Terms: The position is a full-time salaried appointment with a two-year term, with possibility for renewal. Postdoctoral research associates are employees of the NGA and have full use of the Gallery's library, research facilities, and services. As members of CASVA's scholarly community, they are expected to participate in ongoing meetings and programs at the Center and to develop their own scholarship. One day per week is available to pursue research in personal areas of specialization. All applicants should have a PhD in art history or expect to complete all requirements for the PhD by September 2019. Must have proven experience with digital art history scholarship that has engaged innovative IT solutions, enterprise systems, outsourced environments, and open source developments. Proficiency in one or more European languages. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and to manage and balance multiple projects and priorities. Effective presentation, organizational, and communication skills. Preference given to applicants who have not already held a regular faculty appointment.
