         Subject: surveys?

It would be generally useful, I suppose, if someone in the virtual here
would briefly sketch out what is generally agreed to be required for a
survey, under what conditions, to yield better than unsystematic, anecdotal
evidence -- i.e. to be worth anyone's time to complete? Are there reference
books on the subject?

Many thanks.

Yours,
WM
