             Subject: priorities in publication

Allow me strongly to recommend a talk by Joshua Lederberg, "Options for the
    Future", D-Lib Magazine (May 1996),
    http://www.dlib.org/dlib/may96/05lederberg.html. He is writing about
publication in the natural sciences, which plays by somewhat different
rules than ours, but the questions he asks and many of the conclusions he
draws are immediately relevant to us. We need to think with such clarity.

    Yours,
    WM
