Subject: Classics Symposium at Oxford
Oxford ICT in Classics Conference
St Anne's College, July 19 and 20, 1999
This course will bring together the very best in Classics and ICT. The two
day residential course will include lectures and workshops by:
Professor Greg Crane of Tufts University, Director of the Perseus Project
Don Fowler of Jesus College Oxford,
Rob Latousek, chair of the American Classical League Committee on
Educational Computer Applications, president of Centaur Systems Ltd
Julian Morgan, Computer Coordinator for the Joint Association of Classical
Teachers
Licia Landi, Liceo Classico 'S. Maffei', Verona
Michael Fraser, CTI Textual Studies, Oxford University
Chris Stephens, Oxford University Computing Services
As we approach the 21st Century, it is essential that teachers of Classics
should understand what technologies are available and how to make active
use of them. Our aim is to show what can be done and how to do it.
Workshops on authoring web pages and multimedia programs will be given,
and on using the internet as a research tool for students and teachers.
Lectures will look at how schools and universities can make full use of
currently available resources. In particular we are delighted to have the
involvement of the Perseus Project Director, and we look forward to
hearing how the project will continue to move forward the presentation,
research and learning of Greek and Latin.
Delegates will receive all meals, including lunch and full college dinner.
A second night's stay at St Anne's can be added on at extra cost, if so
desired. There will be opportunities for delegates to purchase computing
software at discounted prices, as well as visit the Yale University Press
stand. Please book your place before February 20th, 1999. Cheques should
be made payable to "JACT Computing Account". There is a limited number of
grants of 50 GBP each available for teachers who will not be able to
attend without subsidy. Please ask Julian Morgan for details
(Julian@JPROGS.source.co.uk). This event is supported by Friends of
Classics, JACT, Oxford University Computing Services, St Anne's College
and Yale University Press.
