Position Title: Assistant Professor (Tenure Track)
The English Department is seeking a candidate for an Assistant Professor
(tenure-track position) in digital humanities. Candidates should be able to
address DH theoretically, critically, or thematically and also be able to
practice methods such as computational literary studies, cultural
analytics, social media analysis, text encoding, text analysis, ontologies,
corpus construction, GIS/mapping, code or software studies, and machine
learning/artificial intelligence, while relating or applying any of the
above to important areas of current or historical social, cultural, and
literary concern. The ideal candidate’s range would be broad enough to
overlap with colleagues in other historical, theoretical, and
methodological fields, including those in our department’s distinctive
research and teaching centers (see http://www.english.ucsb.edu/research).
Candidates must be able to teach a range of English department courses. The
University is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the
diversity and excellence of the academic community through research,
teaching and service as appropriate to the position.

The Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering at Indiana
University (IU) in Bloomington, Indiana invites applications for two open rank
tenure track / tenured professor positions to begin August 1, 2024 in the
Department of Information and Library Science (ILS). Faculty research areas in
ILS include social informatics, digital humanities, documentation, digital
libraries, data curation, information retrieval, music informatics, text mining,
computer-mediated communication, and more. We are particularly interested in
hiring in the following two areas:
* Social informatics - including social impacts of computing, social analysis of
computing, studies of computer-mediated communication, information policy,
computers and society, organizational informatics, and social media analysis.
* Knowledge infrastructure - including information architecture, open access,
open science, information retrieval, and media preservation and archives.
U.S. News & World Report ranked the Bloomington Information and Library Science
program ninth nationally in its most recent rankings. The Luddy School of
Informatics, Computing, and Engineering is the first of its kind and among the
largest in the country, with over 140 faculty and 2800 students. We seek
candidates prepared to contribute to our commitment to diversity and inclusion
in higher education, especially those with experience in teaching or working
with diverse student populations. Duties will include research, teaching, and
service.
Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Information Science, or a related field
expected before August 2024. For junior-level appointments, applicants should

*a) 1 PhD in “Semantic Annotation and Knowledge Graphs. Application to
Classics/Ancient Greek”*
Use Hybrid AI (Deep Learning, Symbolic AI, Natural Language Processing)
to semantically annotate large text collections that cover vast
historical time periods. Semantically annotated texts will be enriched
with metadata, i.e. with references to concepts stored in knowledge
graphs, including domain ontologies, for the purpose of effective data
management. The objective is to produce open datasets that are
shareable, searchable, findable, and linkable to external resources.
*b) 1 PhD position in “Artificial Intelligence for the Preservation and
Dissemination of Cultural Heritage”*
The objective is to preserve and open cultural items in such a way that
they are shareable, linkable and findable. Particular attention will be
paid to scarce resources such as linear B inscriptions. Deep Learning
will be used to complete inscriptions. Terminology, ontology and
knowledge graphs will be used for their representation. Expected results
include the creation of an online museum and library dedicated to the
Linear B inscription in compliance with the Linked and Open Data standards.
*c) 1 PhD in “Digitalisation of Education: Contribution of Artificial
Intelligence to Curriculum Analysis”*
The aim of the PhD is to propose a modelling and a digital
representation of curricula that allow their processing by machines, for
example for the study of their alignment with skills and activities. To
this end, the contribution of artificial intelligence, natural language
processing, Knowledge representation and standards (ISO & W3C) will be
studied. This includes ontologies which “are used with great success in
education because they allow to formulate the representation of a
learning domain by specifying all concepts involved, relations between
concepts and all properties and conditions that exist” [Stancin et al.
2020].
