Fixed Term for 24 months
Closing date: Apply Before 13/01/2022, 17:00

The candidate will be expected to make a significant contribution to the

The Opportunity:

Over the last few decades mass digitisation has been transforming the
collections of libraries, archives and museums, and at the same time the
internet and online services have generated huge volumes of textual data. The
volume and quality of available digitised and born digital text now makes
searching and linking data feasible, and new High-Performance Computing (HPC)
environments and analytic frameworks enable researchers to mine large-scale
digital collections effectively. TDM is of strategic importance for the
Edinburgh Future Institute, the CDCS and the School of Languages, Literatures
and Cultures. The post holder will work with academics, external stakeholders,
and other organisations, as well as our students and graduate researchers, to
conduct innovative research across all four of EFI’s strategic themes.

• A PhD qualification in digital humanities, computer science or other relevant
discipline.
• Ability to produce peer-reviewed journal articles and/or substantial work
towards a scholarly monograph or equivalent
• Excellent research vision with a clear plan for a programme that engages the
affordances and potential of text and data mining methodologies with humanities
data Insight into creative processes to synthesise research and innovation
outputs;
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Excellent IT skills and knowledge of most standard computing packages.

If invited for interview you will be required to evidence your right to work in
the UK. The University is able to sponsor the employment of international
workers in this role. If successful, an international applicant requiring
sponsorship to work in the UK will need to satisfy the UK Home Office’s English
Language requirements and apply for and secure a Skilled Worker Visa.
